Green Hanjiang registered in August 2002 and is the NGO in Hubei province, as well as the first environmental group working on the Han River. This NGO aims to promote environmentally friendly development around the Han River (Hanjiang) through public education and information dissemination. Green Hanjiang’ s main activities include doing research on environmental hotspots around Haniang, communicating public concerns to local government agencies, acting as watchdog against local pollution, and educating rural population on importance of sustainable development. This NGO has also advocated for greater compensation for citizens in Hubei who will be displaced by the construction of the South-North Water Transfer project.
