Election of Regional Focal Point for North Africa
GEF Regional Focal Point Elections North Africa
30th October 2009 (Click here to download this document in PDF)
Dear Colleagues,
As you are aware, the Elections Task Force of the GEF NGO Network initiated the elections for the position of Regional Focal Point (RFP) in April-May 2009 in your region. The elections were extended following a tie between the two candidates. As the tie remained unsolved even after the extended duration, the Elections Task Force, as advised by the Coordination Committee of the GEF NGO Network, had initiated another round of elections for the two leading candidates vide its letter dated 1st September 2009 to facilitate the election of a new RFP in the region.
You may also be aware that subsequent to the Notication for Elections, one of the candidates ATPNE, Tunisia withdrew its candidature for the post of Regional Focal Point for North Africa. Although there was only one remaining candidate RAED, the Elections Task Force permitted voting for a third round, and submitted their unanimous report to the CFP.
I have the pleasure to declare that Arab Network for Environment and Development “RAED” is duly elected as the next Regional Focal Point for the North Africa Region with effect from 23rd of October 2009 for a period of four years.
I would like to thank all candidates for their interest in the elections and the activity of the Network and all the voters for their participation.
I am sure that the new RFP will be in touch with you soon to discuss how to effectively work in enhancing the work of GEF and the GEF NGO network in your region.
Regards,
