Election of Regional Focal Point for the Pacific region

ELECTION RESULTS

The Election Task Force of the GEF NGO Network initiated the election for the position of Regional Focal Point (RFP) for the Pacific Region on 23 July 2012 as the term of the current RFP, The Foundation of the People of the South Pacific International (FSPI), Fiji who has served its second term, will be completed on September 30, 2012Following the call for nomination, one nomination was received before the closing date on the 17 Aug 2012. Due to the low response from the region, and in order to make the election process more participatory and to increase the number of candidates for the Regional Focal Point in the region, the Election Task Force unanimously agreed to extend the deadline for submission of self-nomination until 30 Aug 2012.However,the number of nomination remained the same at the end of the extended deadline. I have received the report from the Election Task Force that recommended that in line with the rules of the Network, Page 20, Annex 5, Para e, which states that “In the case of only one eligible candidate for the election, they may be declared the winner without a voting session.”, the one eligible nomination received be accepted as the RFP without the need to vote.
